This is the blessed $1 corner at Johnny D’s in Brighton. Though most items on the shelves require same- or next-day usage, it’s a fun little spot to check. The bag of brussels sprouts on the bottom shelf came home with me, although I am sorry to say I didn’t cook them as well as I should have. I love brussels sprouts, but this was my first time preparing them myself. It’s an easy process, but I was rushed and felt scared about over cooking them — at which point they become bitter and undesirable. I parboiled them for maybe three minutes, then sauteed them with butter for another few minutes. They were a little on the crisp side when all was said and done, but they sure looked pretty!
