Happy royal wedding day! I’m not one to get very festive for an event like this, but I did take a few minutes this afternoon to watch some BBC video clips. While I was in the royal spirit, I decided to walk across the street to Dunkin’ Donuts to try a royal wedding doughnut, since today is the last day they’re available. Oh, you didn’t know there was a royal wedding donut? Apparently, the chief executive of Dunkin’s parent company is British born and bred, so they figured a culinary tribute was in order. A press release from the New England-based chain says the heart shape signifies the love between Prince William and Catherine, and the doughnut is filled with jelly to represent how their lives are to be ever-filled with happiness. The white frosting is reminiscent of the traditional white wedding gown, and the chocolate drizzle is symbolic of William’s love for chocolate.
I was a little worried the Dunkin’ by my house would be sold out of this special treat, but there were three left when I got there! And $0.89 apiece, if you were wondering.
