I decided today that I should give myself a wall-decorating deadline. I’ve been in this apartment a little over six months, and there is absolutely no reason for me to continue to avoid making decisions about what might fill the ample wall space. What does this have to do with maps, you say? I think I’ll frame pieces of maps from areas that mean something to me and/or Tim. So, I guess you could say I’ve turned into a map collector. Anyone want to donate to my stash?
I stopped in to Yesterday’s News when I was in Brooklyn a few weeks ago and I was pleased to find a bucket full of old maps for a dollar apiece. I picked up a northeast United States map because of its nice close-up of Boston. I wanted to also buy everything else in the store, but I’m going to focus on maps for now.
Other frame-worthy areas I might include in my wall scheme are northern Virginia (where I’m from and where Tim grew up), Jefferson City (where Tim’s family lives now), Utah (where we both went to college before we met), and maybe a few spots in Europe (one time, long before I knew of Tim’s existence, we were both in Paris during the same week!).
Now I need to decide if I want to use some of the mismatched frames I have hiding away in a closet or if I should buy a few uniform frames to tie it all together. Suggestions? Maybe a weekend trip to IKEA is in store.

When our basement is done, we’ll have the walls filled with maps too! Appalachian trail, Kirtland (showing John Tanner’s home), some of Daren’s site design aerials, Loudoun County from the 1800s, etc. Great minds . . .
I LOVE this idea! And I would LOVE to visit that store someday…
